For all those people who are interested in the Eurovision Song Contest, here are some details and results for 2008.
The 2008 contest will be held in Beogradska Arena in Belgrade, Serbia.
For the first time, due to political voting over the past years, there will be 2 semi finals. The first semi final was on Tuesday 20 May 2008. The second semi final will be on Thursday 22 May 2008. The Final will be on Saturday 24 May 2008.
The only country to automatically qualified to the Final are the big 4 countries and the 2007 winners, which are France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom and Serbia. 2 of these countries will vote in one semi final and the other 3 will vote in the other semi final.
The contest will be available in High Definition (now the technology is in place since the World Cup was broadcast in HD). The BBC will show the Saturday final in HD.
The semi Final allocation draw took placed on 28 January. Also decided which of the 5 qualified countries to vote in which semi final. Germany and Spain in semi final 1 and Serbia, France and United Kingdom in semi final 2.
There is also 6 pots in which 6 countries are located in. Pot 5 and 6 has 7
countries so it was drawn that the extra country in pot 5 will go to semi final
1 and pot 6 goes to semi final 2
First drawn from each pot will go to semi final 1
Second drawn from each pot will go to semi final 2
Third drawn from each pot will go to semi final 1
Fourth drawn from each pot will go to semi final 2
Fifth drawn from each pot will go to semi final 1
Sixth drawn from each pot will go to semi final 2
The draw order was held on 18 March.
Top 9 songs from each of the Semi Finals will go through + 1 song with the highest backup jury score who did not qualify. Sweden went through instead of FYR Macedonia.
The presenters are Jovana Janković and Željko Joksimović.
43 Countries has indicated their interest. Here are the list of countries and songs. Points 1 to 7 will be shown automatically on screen and then the spokesperson will announce points 8, 10 and 12.
